April, 2007. Sometimes you need to change things up a bit to trigger your luck. On a recent search for moose sheds, I employed some rather unorthodox methods in the woods. I walked in some nontypical places for moose to shed their antlers: edges of hardwood areas, grassy beaver meadows and thick spruce bogs. I was rewarded with a few nice sheds, including a couple monster snowplows. The last set is as good as it can get; nice and dark brown with lots of clean, distinct points. Each bathtub scores 80 inches and weighs close to 30 pounds; my best matched set by quite a bit. This bull walks with about a 66" spread, a tremendous world class animal.
April, 2007. Some nice whitetail finds here from around the region, sent in by a few friends of Minnesota Bucks.
March, 2007. Three days of searching the northern Minnesota forest yielded 21 moose antlers. Six of the sheds score over 60 inches. I left a few mossy ones out there, but here's some highlights of the nicer ones I found. The first big tank has 14 points. The last big old matched set was really heavy, with bases around 10 inches. I can't really remember being tired at the end of each day, just that it seemed like I was always hauling antlers around in the woods.
March, 2007. Lots of nice sheds being picked up by a few different folks around the state. The first shed is an extraordinary find. The hunter actually harvested the double-mainbeam buck first, and then found the shed antler a couple years later. There's also a couple very nice fresh singles and some heavy duty old matched sets in this bunch.
March, 2007. The northwoods has been a good place for me over the years. Here's a good group of older antlers, including one big old seven point. The winterkill buck was a typical heavy 130" class northern whitetail.
March, 2007. Deer antlers are starting to hit the ground a little more frequently these days. The last set is a remarkable one. The hunter found the fresh antler one spring. Years later, while sitting on the bow stand, the hunter spotted the matching side. Even after several seasons of weathering, the set is still mighty impressive.
March, 2007. Sheds are starting to be found in all parts of the state now. Here's a big eight point set few nice fresh singles. The last two are tanks.
February, 2007. Here's another batch of antlers from northern Minnesota. Some fresh, some old, some chewed and frozen. Some nice ones in there too.
February, 2007. Some more fresh stuff, including a unique 22-inch beam old timer, a medium set with my second-only drop tine. After that are a bunch of huge fivers, a couple with split brows. Some impressive stuff from a seasoned shed hunter I know.
February 2007. Some good folks sent in some recent finds from different parts of northern Minnesota. Nice to see the young guy out there having success.
